As a Black woman born in Chicago and raised New York, I have spent 20 of my 37 years making an impact. I have worked in the public and private sector for many of my career's goals. I work with various organizations in Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C. and beyond. In each of these fields, I have experienced, witnessed and the systematic racist oppressive ways that people of color and Indigenous are treated each every single day. I have witnessed and heard the constant, repeated calls for peace and justice, while being met with brutality, murder and injustice. I have seen experienced the ways in which Black and Brown youth in Chicago are denied access to programs and resources they need deserve. To be honest, as a young and young-at-heart, I just can't see the value of continuing to do the work I do. I was born and raised in Chicago. It is here where I experienced my first, and most profound, feelings of outrage at the system. I became aware of the issue while attending school for political science at the University of Illinois Chicago. I remember, as a young child, being shocked, outraged and appalled to see police routinely shooting and killing young African Americans. It was not a surprise. I knew that this was a problem in our society and that it was deeply rooted, international online pharmacy germany as evidenced by the numerous injustices committed against Black communities. I was not used to, nor I prepared for, the sheer brutality, recklessness and disregard that would eventually come to define my generation of Chicagoans. But when it came, came in fits and starts. It was as if they did not care that she was a black woman, that she was an asylum seeker or that she spoke English. To my grandmother, even the most innocuous of questions and requests had to be met with a threat of bodily harm and immediate removal of herself her family to a foreign country. So even though she understood faced immediate and severe danger, the officers, who I'm sure were not there to serve and protect but terrorize, did nothing. My grandmother called police for assistance. I was five years old the first time I witnessed my parents' police brutality firsthand. I had just arrived to the United States from Ghana when my father was shot three times in the back with a high caliber handgun. For the next nine days, before he even made it to the hospital, my mother was constantly afraid that our home and belongings were taken from us, and that my young brothers I would be taken away as well. I was never even allowed to visit my home country. I was forced, against my will, to live in a foreign country. For the duration of that nine day period, not once did I see my parents again. had never seen my parents hurt in any physical way since moving to America. I had never seen them humiliated, bullied or forced to lie down in submission the will of a larger group people. I had never seen my parents in pain because of injustice.
